Service Provider & Value-Added Reseller's Role In Iridium Certus Over-the-Air Updates
Iridium® Service Providers (SPs) and Value-Added Resellers (VARs) are responsible for informing their customers of firmware updates that are available for their devices. Iridium SPs and VARs will provide appropriate notice to their customers and obtain their customers’ appropriate authorization, consistent with both:
- SP’s contractual obligations with customers; and
- All applicable laws.
The customer has the right to opt-out of Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates at any time and will communicate any change to this opt-out or opt-in to their SP or VAR. Based on this:
- Iridium SPs and VARs must update the subscriber device settings within Iridium SPNet/ Iridium Web Services (IWS) as detailed in SPNet/IWS trainings (NOTE: requires Iridium For Partners login to access).
- Iridium will rely on SPs’ and VARs’ approvals and rejections to determine which subscriber equipment will receive OTA updates.
- Iridium SPs and VARs shall maintain records of their notice to subscribers of their right to opt-out of OTA updates and of those subscribers’ authorizations or lack of authorizations for OTA updates.
- SPs and VARs shall provide those records to Iridium upon request.
