Iridium Satellite LLC (“Iridium,” “we,” or “us”) understands that privacy is important to you and values your trust. This privacy notice (the “Notice”) explains how we collect, use, retain, and generally process personal information in connection with our Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (“GMDSS”) services (the “Services”).
This Notice applies to customers who subscribe to our GMDSS Services through a third party entity that is under contract with Iridium to provide Iridium Services (“Iridium Service Provider”), and who are anywhere in the world, except in the European Economic Area. We Collect Personal information
Iridium will collect personal information of customers for business purposes in order to perform and provide Services as contractually agreed with the Iridium Service Provider. Such personal information relate to vessels’ unique devices from which (or to which) electronic communications are sent (or received). For example, information such as Vessel Name, International Maritime Organization (“IMO”) number, Maritime Mobile Service Identity (“MMSI”), Call Sign, Fleet Name, Nation Flag, Vessel Type, SP Owner, Vessel information, Tonnage, Year of build, Port of Registry, Capacity of People, and Provider Reference (SP Ticket Number), in connection with an Emergency Contact comprised of identifiers, such as a name, and email, and other categories of personal information, such us a phone number. Iridium has and relies on legitimate interest to process personal information, such as emergency contact information, to provide and improve the GMDSS Services and network operations. In addition, Iridium may process this personal information as necessary for protecting the vital interests of the customer or another natural person; performing a task carried out in the public interest; and/or complying with legal obligations.
The Ways We Disclose Personal information
The above mentioned personal information will be disclosed, to the extent required for service delivery, to appropriate and authorized recipients. Recipients may include: Iridium’s rescue and coordination center, third party service providers and subcontractors (e.g. Iridium Service Providers), other third parties performing services for us and assisting with the provision of the GMDSS Service (e.g. governmental safety agencies and law enforcement), our affiliates, joint ventures, or other companies under common control. Iridium may also disclose personal information if Iridium determines in good faith it is necessary or appropriate to comply with applicable laws or respond to requests from law enforcement or other government officials, or to protect or defend the rights or property of Iridium, you, or third parties. Iridium does not sell your personal information. Iridium has not disclosed any of the above information in the preceding 12 months.
Updating Your Personal Information
You may update or modify your Personal Information by emailing us at email@example.com. Please include “[Country] – GMDSS personal information update request” in the email’s subject line. If you have access to the Iridium Service Provider GMDSS portal, you may also update your Personal Information using your account.
Residents of California
Iridium has not collected, disclosed or sold any of the categories of Personal Information mentioned above in the preceding 12 months.
Changes to Our Notice
This Notice is subject to revision from time to time. If we make material changes to how we treat your personal information, we will notify you by using the email address on record.
