Opting In & Out Of Iridium Certus OTA Updates
At the time of subscription for a new subscriber, or at time of Over-the-Air (OTA) launch, Iridium Service Providers (SPs) and Value-Added Resellers (VARs) shall notify the customer of the option to Opt-Out of Iridium OTA activities.
Unless the SP or VAR explicitly opts a customer device out of OTA updates via Iridium SPNet/Iridium Web Services (IWS) methods, the OTA update capability will be enabled and firmware will be disseminated to devices as approved by Iridium and the device Value-Added Manufacturer (VAM).
SPs and VARs may provide notices about OTA updates in any form or manner consistent with:
- Iridium SPs’ or VARs’ contractual obligations with customers; and
- Applicable laws.
Laws will differ between jurisdictions, and SPs and VARs should consult with counsel, as needed, on what notice is legally required. In some jurisdictions, SPs and VARs may be able to provide notice through language in their Terms of Service.
