Our Commitment to Privacy

Iridium Satellite LLC (“Iridium,” “we,” or “us,”) understands that privacy is important to you and values your trust. This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains how we handle and protect your Personal Data, such as your name, address, email address, telephone number, job title, job industry, company/organization name, and any other information you provide or any other non-public information that we associate with your contact information and that can identify you as an individual.

Specifically, this Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and otherwise generally process Personal Data in connection with:

  • Your use of this website or any of the Iridium Apps (the “Site”). Most areas of the Site are intended for consumers. Two areas of the Site – Iridium for Partners and Iridium Global Maritime Distress Safety System (“GMDSS”) – are areas restricted to use by our Service Providers and other third parties. This Privacy Policy describes Iridium’s collection, use and disclosure of Personal Data in both the consumer areas of the Site and within Iridium for Partners and Iridium GMDSS.
  • Your use of our voice and/or data services, including but not limited to GMDSS services, Iridium Certus®, and Iridium CloudConnect (the “Services”).
  • Iridium operates under a wholesale model, meaning that customers subscribe to our Services through one of our service providers or value-added resellers (“Iridium Service Providers”). Iridium Service Providers are under contract with Iridium to provide our Services. Typically, Iridium’s Service Providers directly collect and process your Personal Data and are responsible for how they collect and use your Personal Data. Additional information on their processing of your Personal Data may be available directly from your Iridium Service Provider. This Policy outlines how Iridium collects and uses your Personal Data, distinct from our Iridium Service Providers.
  • Your other interactions with Iridium, including to the extent you interact with Iridium outside of our Site or Services, for example, at events or when you visit our physical offices or facilities.

 

This Privacy Policy generally applies to (1) users of the Site; (2) customers who subscribe to our Services who are anywhere in the world, except in the European Economic Area (“EEA”); and (3) others who may interact with Iridium.

  • If you are a customer who subscribes to our Services and are from the EEA or the UK, there is a specific section of this Privacy Policy that applies to you.
  • If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, there are specific sections of this Privacy Policy that apply only to you.

 

Your use of the Site or Services indicates your acceptance of the terms of this Privacy Policy. Notices that supplement this Privacy Policy prevail in cases of conflict with this Privacy Policy.

THE SITE AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED FROM THE UNITED STATES AND OTHER LOCATIONS. IF YOU ARE A USER ACCESSING THE SITE OR SERVICES, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THROUGH YOUR CONTINUED USE OF THE SITE OR SERVICES, WHICH ARE GOVERNED BY UNITED STATES LAW AND THE APPLICABLE LAW OF OTHER JURISDICTIONS, THIS PRIVACY POLICY, AND OUR TERMS OF SERVICE, YOU ARE TRANSFERRING YOUR PERSONAL DATA TO THE UNITED STATES AND OTHER LOCATIONS, AND YOU CONSENT TO THAT TRANSFER. ADDITIONALLY, YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR PERSONAL DATA MAY BE PROCESSED IN COUNTRIES (INCLUDING THE UNITED STATES) WHERE LAWS REGARDING PROCESSING PERSONAL DATA MAY BE DIFFERENT OR LESS STRINGENT THAN IN YOUR HOME JURISDICTION.

Additional Information for Residents of California: Notice at Collection and Personal Information Rights

Pursuant to the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020, (collectively the “CCPA”), California residents may have certain data privacy rights, such as the right to be notified about what Personal Information categories we collect about you, and our intended use and purpose for collecting such Personal Information. This section describes the Personal Information we may have collected directly from you or indirectly about you if you use our Site or Services or otherwise interact with Iridium, and how we have used and/or disclosed your Personal Information. It also describes the Personal Information that we will collect and the purposes for that collection, as well as your rights under the CCPA. Capitalized terms defined in the CCPA and used in this section shall have the same meaning as in the CCPA.

Iridium’s Privacy Policy and the additional information for California residents generally applies to our business-to-business contacts who are California residents, in addition to California residents who use the Site, use our Services, or otherwise interact with Iridium as described in this Privacy Policy.

Note, however, that Iridium provides a separate notice to any employees or job applicants who are California residents.

Categories of Personal Information Collected: We may collect the following categories of Personal Information from or about you, with the type of information collected varying depending on your use of the Site and/or our Services:

  • Identifiers such as a real name, postal address, IP address, email address, account name, telephone number, and device identifier;
  • Other categories of Personal Information, such as signature and financial information, including for example your credit or debit card related information;
  • Characteristics of protected classifications under California or federal law;
  • Commercial information, including for example records of products or Services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies;
  • Internet or other electronic network activity information, such as your browsing and search history, information regarding your interaction with an internet website or application, and information regarding a consumer’s interaction with an internet website, application, or advertisement;
  • Geolocation data;
  • Audio, electronic, visual, or similar information;
  • Professional or employment-related information; and
  • Certain Sensitive Personal Information. For example, we may collect precise geolocation information in relation to certain devices where consumers enable location-based services; we may temporarily collect and/or maintain messages in order to perform and provide certain Services and to operate and improve our network, including to maintain network continuity; and we may collect Social Security Numbers (SSNs), driver’s license numbers, and passport information for visitors to our physical offices and/or Iridium Partners, for the purposes of ensuring security and safety. We do not sell or share this Sensitive Personal Information, as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we do not use or disclose Sensitive Personal Information for purposes other than those permitted under the CCPA.

Categories of Sources from which Personal Information Is Collected: We collect these categories of Personal Information from various sources, including (a) you, (b) your interactions with the Site or Services, (c) social media, (d) our Iridium Service Providers, or (e) our marketing or other partners. Purposes for which Personal Information Is Collected: See The Ways We Use Personal Information, above, which describes the business or commercial purposes for which your Personal Data may be used.

Categories of Personal Information Disclosed for a Business Purpose: We may disclose the following categories of Personal Information to entities other than Iridium for a business purpose:

Purposes for which Personal Information Is Disclosed: See The Ways We Disclose Personal Information, above, which describes the business or commercial purposes for which your Personal Information may be used.

Categories of Third Parties with whom Iridium Discloses Personal Information: See The Ways We Disclose Personal Information, above, which describes the third parties with whom Iridium may disclose your Personal Information for a business purpose. This may apply to each category of Personal Information we disclose for a business purpose.

“Selling” and “Sharing” under the CCPA: As defined by the CCPA, we “sell” and/or “share” certain online identifiers for the purposes of online advertising and analytics. Specifically, we disclose certain online identifiers to advertising partners and analytics providers. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from anyone under 18, so we do not have actual knowledge of “selling” or “sharing” Personal Information of minors under 16.

You have the right to opt-out of this “selling” and “sharing.” For more information about these activities and to exercise your right to opt-out, please see our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

California Residents’ Rights Under the CCPA: If you are a resident of California, you have:

  • The right to know what Personal Information the business has collected about the consumer, including the categories of Personal Information, the categories of sources from which the Personal Information is collected, the business or commercial purpose for collecting, selling, or sharing Personal Information, the categories of third parties to whom the business discloses Personal Information, and the specific pieces of Personal Information the business has collected about the consumer;
  • The right to delete Personal Information that the business has collected from the consumer, subject to certain exceptions;
  • The right to correct inaccurate Personal Information that a business maintains about a consumer;
  • To the extent the business sells or shares Personal Information as defined by the CCPA, the right to opt-out of the sale or sharing of their Personal Information by the business;
  • If the business uses or discloses Sensitive Personal Information for certain reasons, the right to limit the use or disclosure of Sensitive Personal Information by the business; however, Iridium does not use or disclose sensitive Personal Information in a way that would trigger this right; and
  • The right not to receive discriminatory treatment by the business for the exercise of privacy rights conferred by the CCPA, including an employee’s, applicant’s, or independent contractor’s right not to be retaliated against for the exercise of their CCPA rights.

 

How California Residents Can Exercise Your California Rights under the CCPA: If you are a resident of California:

  • To exercise your right to opt out of “selling” and “sharing,” please see our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. As detailed on that page, you may opt-out of “selling” and/or “sharing” by taking a number of actions, including (1) setting your cookie preferences for our Sites here, or (2) setting your preference for your browser using the Global Privacy Control (“GPC”). Note that GPC is a browser-level tool that Iridium recognizes and treats as a request to opt-out of “selling” and “sharing.” GPC is not available on all browsers.

Please indicate in your communication that your request is pursuant to the CCPA. If you have access to Iridium for Partners or Iridium GMDSS, you may also submit your request using your account.

 

We will work to verify your request using the identifying information you provide us in the request with any Personal Information we may maintain; if we are unable to do so, we may ask you follow-up questions. To protect your Personal Information, when submitting your request, please provide information sufficient for us to reasonably verify you are the person about whom we collected Personal Information and describe your request with sufficient detail that allows us to properly understand, evaluate and respond to it, including information about your relationship with Iridium (e.g., a customer of Iridium Services or an Iridium partner).

Note, we may deny your request in whole or in part if we cannot verify your identity. For requests to delete, we will not delete any Personal Information unless we have confirmed with you that you want your Personal Information deleted, unless otherwise required by applicable law. You can also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. To do so, we may require that you confirm directly to us that you have provided the authorized agent permission to submit the request, and even if you elect to use an authorized agent to make a request, we may verify your identity directly with you.
