Iridium Mail & Web App: Discontinuing Support
The Iridium Mail & Web App will be decommissioned on September 13th, 2025, and we will stop accepting new user registrations for Iridium Mail & Web app users on September 1, 2025. We recognize this service has been essential for many of you to stay connected in remote areas, we did not make this decision lightly, and we’re here to help you make a smooth transition to an alternative app.
Rationale
The Iridium Mail & Web App and its supporting server infrastructure were built in 2014 for Iridium GO!® users. Since then, the technology landscape has evolved significantly, making it increasingly challenging to sustain a reliable and secure user experience.
What To Expect
Iridium will stop accepting new Iridium Mail & Web App user registrations on September 1, 2025.
The App Will No Longer Work: After September 13, 2025, if you still have the Iridium Mail & Web App installed on your smart device, you will be able to open the app but it will no longer be able to send or receive messages. Any attempt to sync mail will result in an error—as the backend server will be decommissioned.
The App Will Be Removed From App Stores: The Iridium Mail & Web app will be removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store and will no longer be available for download or reinstallation.
What You Need To Do
Access and download your emails before September 1, 2025. As the Iridium Mail & Web App and service is phased out, it’s essential to understand how the system works and what steps you should take to recover emails on the server. There are two methods, shown below.
NOTE:
- Only one copy of each email exists. Once you download an email—regardless of method (via app or Web portal)—it is permanently deleted from the server. That email now exists only on your device.
- Inactive accounts are automatically deleted. Accounts that have been inactive (i.e., no logins or message activity) for over 12 months have already been deleted from the system, along with any stored emails. Unfortunately, these cannot be recovered.
- If you have forgotten your password, you can retrieve it here: https://www.iridium.com/mailandweb/password-retrieval/ (High-speed internet required).
Method 1: Download emails using the Web portal (recommended):
- We recommend logging into www.iridiummail.net on your Web browser. This allows for faster access than via the Iridium Mail & Web App over the Iridium® Network.
Method 2: Download emails using the app:
- Connect your smartphone to the Iridium Network via an Iridium GO! device with an active subscription. This is required to complete the send/receive process.
- Open the Iridium Mail app
- Select Mail
- Select Send/Receive Email
How to Save Your Emails
We recommend retaining a copy of your email using one of the following methods, as Web portal access will shut down on September 13th, 2025. We cannot guarantee that the mobile app will remain functional, as smartphones continue to receive OS updates. While the app may still work for some time, there is a risk it could crash or become unusable, and users may lose access to emails stored locally.
- Forward the emails to another personal or work address
- Take screenshots
- Copy/paste key information into a separate document
How To Keep Sending & Receiving Emails with your Iridium GO!
Method 1: Use your Iridium GO! device’s SMS-to-email feature
Sending a message to an Email Address:
- Connect the smart device to the Iridium GO! device’s Wi-Fi network and Launch the Iridium GO! app
- Open Messages -> Select new message
- In the “TO” field, enter the recipient’s full email address. And in the message body, type your email content (up to 1000 chars)
- Hit Send.
- Your message will be delivered to the recipient’s inbox as a standard email and their response to the email will be delivered to you as an SMS.
Receiving an email on your Iridium GO! device:
- Use the email address 8816[number]@msg.iridium.com, with 8816[number] being your Iridium 8816 number.
Method 2: Switch to a third-party satellite email app
If you need access to a satellite email experience, several third-party apps offer alternatives. NOTE: These apps are provided by third parties, unrelated to Iridium. Terms and conditions apply; please read the app provider’s webpage before use.
