Rock Seven - RockBLOCK+

Overview

The RockBLOCK+ allows you to send and receive short messages from anywhere on Earth with a clear view of the sky using a serial connection. It works far beyond the reach of Wi-Fi and GSM networks. Maybe you want to transmit weather information from mid-ocean or use it to control your robot in the middle of the desert? Perhaps you need to communicate in an emergency, when other networks might not be available? RockBLOCK can help you.

RockBLOCK+ takes a power input between 9-30v DC, and has an RS-232 serial connection for your data. It also exposes a Ringalert line (to advise you when messages have been received) and a Sleep line (to put the unit into a low power usage mode).

How it Works

At the heart of RockBLOCK is an Iridium 9602 modem. The RockBLOCK hosts the Iridium 9602 and provides it with an antenna, and its power supply requirements. It exposes the modem’s serial interface via a breakout connector over serial, or USB (via a USB/serial adaptor).

Data you send is sent directly to a web-service on your server, so you can then process and use the information however you wish.
