Maxtena M1621HCT-SMA Antenna

Maxtena’s family of M1621HCT and M1600HCT products are high performance antennas designed for the Iridium band and dual Iridium/GPS band, built on proprietary Maxtena HeliCore® technology. This technology provides exceptional pattern control, polarization purity and high efficiency in a very compact form factor. The M1621HCT-SMA and M1600HCT-SMA offer a screw-on design, featuring an integrated SMA connector ideal for applications requiring minimal integration effort or for retrofitting existing products. The design is equipped with an O-ring that makes the antenna waterproof once installed on a mating surface.

How it Works

Maxtena’s line of high performance quadrifilar antennas for Iridium devices is based on proprietary and patented Maxtena HeliCore® technology. HeliCore® technology provides an extremely flexible and low cost antenna platform where light weight, small size, radiation pattern, polarization purity, and high efficiency are the key performance metrics. The Maxtena HeliCore® antenna is ideally suited for all Iridium applications and works equally well as an external antenna with a convenient SMA or other screw-on connector; or embedded directly into your Iridium device with a U.FL pig-tail or other custom interface.

The independent and de-coupled nature of the antenna and feed circuitry utilized in the HeliCore® technology allow for an unprecedented level of pattern purity, even under varying housing and installation conditions. Non-ideal but real-life conditions such as hand or head detuning are minimized with HeliCore® technology and the antenna operates equally well on a large ground plane or with no ground plane at all. The HeliCore® antenna is a true balanced system and allows for easy integration in hand-held or other devices. The Maxtena HeliCore® design maintains excellent circular polarization--even at elevation levels near the horizon--allowing your Iridium device to maintain peak performance under non-ideal orientations.

Unlike conventional ceramic loaded helical antennas, Maxtena HeliCore® technology does not rely on high dielectric core materials and therefore can minimize material losses while increasing antenna efficiency. The HeliCore® antenna technology provides extremely stable and consistent antenna performance across a wide range of operational conditions and Maxtena’s high-yield manufacturing processes ensure repeatable and reliable performance in your device. The HeliCore antennas are offered in a full range of connector styles.
