Iridium is proud to report the recent creation by Greenwich AeroGroup of a dealer network for the LiveAero system — the world’s only global fixed wing and rotorcraft data broadband solution.
As Iridium prepares to take part in the Helitech International Helicopter Expo & Conference on September 24-26, the announcement further confirms the company’s position as provider of the furthest reaching, lowest cost and most reliable commercial communications for the aviation community.
The only global data broadband solution for aviation
Developed by LiveTV — the leading provider of live in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems for commercial airlines — LiveAero leverages Iridium’s global satellite network to allow aircraft passengers to stay connected on smartphones, tablets or laptops everywhere on the planet, including in remote, oceanic and polar regions.
Powered by the Iridium OpenPort AeroSM broadband service, the LiveAero system delivers Wi-Fi-enabled, bi-directional data speeds of up to 300 kbps, and includes three separate high quality voice lines for simultaneous voice and data connectivity.
LiveAero is designed to be upgradeable to function with Iridium NEXT, Iridium’s second-generation satellite constellation, which is planned to begin launching in 2015.
Industry leaders working together
Headed by Greenwich AeroGroup, the new dealer network will be tasked with carrying out the installation and certification of LiveAero — thereby significantly increasing the reach of the system and adding major convenience for operators that opt to it.
The dealer network features key industry players such as:
• Atlantic Aero – Greensboro, N.C.
• Summit Aviation – Middletown, Del.
• Western Aircraft – Boise, Idaho
• Banyan Air Service – Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
• Spirit Avionics – Columbus, Ohio
• Temple Electronics – Houston, Texas, and
• Jet Aviation – Basel, Switzerland/ Dubai, United Arab Emirates/ Singapore
To date, LiveAero certification has already been completed on the Bombardier Challenger 601 3A/3R, 604 and 605 aircraft with additional Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) in process, including the AW-139 and S-76 helicopters.
